Increase Your Comfort in the Car With These Tricks

December 14th, 2017 by

Some cars just aren’t all that comfortable, and others seem to cradle your body. While many might say it’s how much money you spend on them, the truth of the matter is that you can make an car feel like a six-figure car if you know what you’re doing. If you find that you or your passengers need a chiropractor after driving to your destination, use these hacks for a more comfortable ride.

Positioning the Seat Correctly

One of the most common causes of discomfort in your car deals with the positioning of your seat. While you may feel comfortable driving a certain way, that doesn’t mean that it’s the best for your posture or your comfort.

To start, adjust your seat forward enough where you don’t have to stretch your legs all the way to reach the pedals. Your knees should be bent slightly, as this reduces stress on your legs and your back. As far as where you’re seated, make sure you’re in the center. Don’t let the seat touch the backs of your knees, as this reduces circulation. If you do it all correctly, you shouldn’t have to scoot forward or bring your legs back to reach the pedals.

Get Rid of All the Stuff

Some drivers keep a car that looks like it just came off the lot, others not so much. When you’re trying to hit the accelerator or the brakes and an errant bottle or greasy fast food wrapper impedes your movement, enough is enough–it’s time to take out the trash. If you make a regular habit of vacuuming and clearing out stuff you don’t need, you’re in for a more enjoyable and comfortable ride.

Stop the Drafts

If your car is drafty and you find yourself shivering while you drive, you just haven’t learned how to use your climate control and vents to your advantage. Start your draft-free ride by point the vents away from your face. If you’re still feeling a bit of a draft, close the vents. You can then identify any areas where a draft might be coming from.

The result is a car that’s always comfortable, no matter what the weather’s like outside.

Kill the Sounds

You may not think of sounds when you think of comfort, but when something in your car is rattling around, it can cause undue stress and discomfort. While some of the sounds might go away when you clear out the clutter, others are a sign that you might need maintenance. If the sounds are coming from the wheels or engine block, take your car to a mechanic as soon as possible.

With a comfortable ride, you can drive for as long or as far as you want without feeling any ill effects or soreness. Even with this newfound comfort, always remember to take a 15-minute break every two or three hours to increase circulation and awareness, or to just grab a bite to eat. The choice is yours.
