3 Safety Features You’ll Love in the 2018 Honda Accord Hybrid
If you’re shopping for a midsize sedan, the Honda Accord is one of the top choices in the segment. It’s been around for years, but Honda continues to improve this popular model. With the hybrid version of the 2018 Accord, you can save at the pump while enjoying the smooth, comfortable ride. Best of all, it’s packed with impressive safety features that keep you and your passengers safe.
Standard Safety Features
The 2018 Accord Hybrid is available in five trim levels. These are base, EX, EX-L, EX-L w/Navi, and Touring. The standard suite of safety features includes adaptive cruise control, which allows you to set a speed, but also automatically detect other vehicles on the road, and adjust your speed accordingly. There is also forward collision warning with automatic braking, which is a feature that is becoming more common on cars across the Honda lineup, and it’s one that you should seriously consider having in your vehicle.
In the Accord Hybrid, the forward collision warning system uses radar technology to detect the cars ahead of you. If it senses a slowdown or a stopped car ahead, it can give you an audible warning to let you know to hit the brakes. If you don’t react quickly enough, the system will automatically apply the brakes to avoid an accident, if possible. Every model also comes with a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist, which will nudge you back into your lane if you stray outside the lines.
Blind Spot Monitoring
In the upper four trim levels, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert come standard as well. When you’re changing lanes, it’s tough to know if another vehicle is hiding in that spot that’s impossible to see from the side mirrors. The blind spot monitoring system will illuminate a light on the side mirror where the vehicle is located. If you engage the turn signal, the system will emit an audible warning to let you know it’s not safe to change lanes.
With blind spot monitoring, Honda bundles rear cross-traffic alert as well. This feature warns you when cars are passing behind you as you drive in reverse.
Top Trim Safety Features
At the top of the trim levels, the Touring packs the remainder of the available safety features as standard. First, you’ll get automatic high-beam control, which will raise and lower the high beams as needed. It also comes with front and rear parking sensors, making it easier to parallel park in tight spaces. The final feature is a head-up display, which gives you the information you need without having to take your eyes off the road. This information includes your speed, any incoming calls through the Bluetooth connection, Honda Sensing warnings, and navigation directions.
